Frequently Asked Questions
Free photo enhancer vs. typical online enhancers
Most free photo enhancers ask for an account, cap how many photos you can process, or stamp a watermark on the export. This one does none of that — the whole edit runs inside your browser tab.

| Price | Free, unlimited photos | Free tier with daily caps |

How the photo enhancer actually works
This is a filter-based enhancer, not an AI upscaler. Knowing the difference sets realistic expectations for what it can and can't do to your photo.
Brightness, contrast, saturation, and exposure
These four adjustments are applied as browser Canvas filters — brightness(), contrast() and saturate() — computed pixel-by-pixel on your device. Exposure is folded into brightness at half strength, so a +10 exposure nudges overall lightness by roughly +5. None of these steps re-compress the image; the pixels keep their original bit depth until you export.
Sharpen is edge enhancement, not detail recovery
The Sharpen slider runs a 3×3 convolution kernel over every pixel: it boosts the center pixel and subtracts its four neighbours, which increases local contrast along edges. This makes soft edges look crisper, but it cannot reconstruct detail the lens never captured. An out-of-focus photo will look "edgier", not genuinely sharp.
Highlights touches brightness only
Highlights only affects pixels brighter than mid-gray (luminance above 128 on a 0–255 scale). Pulling the slider negative darkens those bright areas to recover washed-out skies or blown skin, while leaving shadows untouched. Pixels that are already pure white (255) hold no recoverable detail and will not change.
Smart Auto Enhance reads the image, then sets the sliders
Auto Enhance samples up to roughly 50,000 pixels across the photo and measures three things: average luminance (how bright the image is overall), contrast range (the gap between the darkest and brightest samples), and color saturation. It then picks a starting point for each slider — brightening a dark photo toward middle gray, widening a flat contrast range, boosting weak color — and leaves the final call to you.
What this enhancer honestly can't do
Every editing tool has edges. These are the cases where you should reach for something else — or lower your expectations.
- It is not AI upscaling or restoration. Tools like Remini or Topaz synthesize new detail with machine-learning models. This enhancer does not — it only adjusts brightness, contrast, color, and edge sharpness on the pixels you already have.
- Heavily blurred or out-of-focus photos will stay soft. Sharpening increases edge contrast, but it can't invent the missing texture. A motion-blurred shot or a misfocused portrait won't be "fixed", only slightly crisper around the edges.
- High sharpen values cause halos. Pushing Sharpen toward 100 can create bright ringing around high-contrast edges (trees against sky, text). For most photos, a value around 20–40 is plenty.
- Blown highlights are gone for good. If a bright area was already clipped to pure white when the photo was taken, the Highlights slider can't bring it back — there is no data left in those pixels to recover.
- PNG export means larger files. The result is saved losslessly as PNG at full resolution, which preserves quality but produces bigger files than a compressed JPEG. If you need a smaller file, follow up with the compressor.
- 20 MB input limit. Photos larger than 20 MB are rejected, and very large images run the per-pixel sharpening step more slowly since it processes every pixel in JavaScript.
- Bad light can't be fully fixed. If a photo is nearly black, there is little shadow detail to lift — brightening it will mostly turn the noise into gray mush.
Slider ranges and what the numbers mean
A quick reference for dialing in a result that looks natural rather than over-edited.
| Control | Range | Low end does | High end does |
|---|---|---|---|
| Brightness | −100 … 100 | Darkens for mood | Lifts an underexposed photo |
| Contrast | −100 … 100 | Flattens (good for hazy scans) | Deepens darks, pops highlights |
| Saturation | −100 … 100 | Mutes toward grayscale | Vivid — can look fake past ~60 |
| Sharpen | 0 … 100 | No change | Strong edge crispness, halo risk |
| Exposure | −100 … 100 | Darkens overall (half-strength) | Brightens overall (half-strength) |
| Highlights | −100 … 100 | Recovers bright areas (negative) | Boosts bright areas (positive) |
